What is MasterTile 30?
MasterTile 30 is a polymer-modified, cement-based tile adhesive for thin or thick bed fixing of ceramic tiles in interior or exterior situations, particularly permanently wet conditions. Suitable for concrete, screeds, renders, plasterboard, and prepared timber, it bonds non-vitrified, vitrified, porcelain, glass mosaic, and non-moisture-sensitive natural stone tiles.
It is the adhesive of choice for swimming pools and wet process applications — abattoirs, shower rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, and high-risk cladding. It can also be applied directly onto existing glazed tiles, and is especially suited to glass mosaic, where it can fix and grout in one system. Mixed with MasterTile A 200 it handles extreme conditions and certain natural stone; with MasterTile RSG 705 it meets chemical resistance and hygiene requirements.

Application Guide — UAE Site Conditions
Follow these steps to achieve full waterproof, non-slip performance for wet area, pool, and exterior tiling under UAE site conditions. Always refer to the current Master Builders TDS.
Surface Preparation
Surfaces must be sound, dimensionally stable, clean, and free from loose laitance, paint, oil, grease, mould release agent, and residual curing compound. Prime porous concrete, mortars, renders, plasterboard, and gypsum fibre boards with MasterTile P 302 to reduce suction. For timber surfaces, check rigidity, ensure ventilation beneath tiled floors, reinforce sprung or parquet floors with 12 mm exterior-grade plywood screwed at 200 mm centres, and prime with MasterCast 141 / Cement Slurry — applying that primer only after MasterTile 30 is mixed so the adhesive goes onto wet primer. Gypsum plasterboards require pre-treatment — consult BASF Technical Services.
Preparing the Mix
Add MasterTile 30 to cool, clean water at 5:1 by weight (approximately 3.3:1 by volume). Mix to a uniform, lump-free consistency and allow to stand for 5 minutes before use. Full bags should be mixed in a forced-action mixer; part bags using a slow-speed drill and paddle. For extreme conditions — vibration or temperature extremes — mix with MasterTile A 200 instead of water; this combination is also suitable for fixing certain natural stone.
Applying the Adhesive
Apply to a uniform thickness of 3 to 6 mm, or sufficient to cover the studs/keys on the tile back, across a working area of not more than 1 m² at a time. Solid bed fixing is recommended for wet conditions, ceramic and marble flooring tiles, and vertical heavy-duty applications including decorative stone cladding. The adhesive can additionally be buttered onto the tile backs for full contact. For other vertical applications, comb the bed horizontally with a notched trowel to remove excess.
Installing Tiles
Tiles should be dry and fixed by pressing into place with a slight twisting motion, ensuring the tile back achieves full contact with the adhesive. Ceramic tiles should never be butt-joined — leave a minimum of 2 mm around tiles. Adjust tiles only during the open wet time. Remove excess adhesive from the tile face with a damp sponge or cloth before it sets, and rake out joints in readiness for grouting.
Grouting & Protection
Leave a minimum of 24 hours before grouting. Select the appropriate grout for joint size and in-service use from the MasterTile range. Provide movement joints in accordance with normal practice — refer to published local standards or BS 5385.
Post-Application Performance
Once cured, MasterTile 30 is walked on and groutable after approximately 24 hours, and able to bear weight after approximately 7 days (at +23°C and 50% RH — higher UAE site temperatures reduce these times, lower temperatures increase them). Suitable for swimming pools, wet process areas, decorative cladding, and exterior tiling across UAE residential, hospitality, and institutional projects.
Solid Bed for Pools
For swimming pools and all permanently wet surfaces, always use solid bed fixing — not notched trowel. Full adhesive contact behind every tile is essential where the bond will face continuous water immersion.
Reinforce Timber First
Sprung, parquet, or tongue-and-groove timber must be reinforced with screwed plywood and ventilated before tiling. Deflection in unreinforced timber is a common cause of tile failure on UAE pool decks and pergolas.
Never Butt-Join
Leave a minimum 2 mm joint around every tile — ceramic tiles should never be butt-joined. Butt-jointing removes the grout's ability to absorb movement and leads to cracking and tenting under thermal stress.
