Mapelastic Smart Ultra Quick-Setting Hydraulic Plugging Compound
Two-component, high-flexibility cementitious waterproofing membrane for protecting and waterproofing concrete and masonry surfaces — engineered for UAE's coastal, high-temperature, and structurally demanding environments.
Designed to perform reliably in UAE conditions, including temperatures exceeding 45°C, intense UV exposure, humidity fluctuations, and salt-laden coastal environments across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah. Its polymer-modified formulation maintains long-term flexibility under thermal expansion and contraction. For best results in peak summer, apply during early morning hours, store components away from direct sunlight, and protect fresh coatings from rapid drying.
UAE's trusted construction chemistry partner — expert coordination, authentic supply, site-ready delivery.
What is Mapelastic Smart?
Mapelastic Smart is a two-component mortar based on cementitious binders, fine-grained selected aggregates, special admixtures and synthetic polymers in water dispersion — formulated in Mapei's research laboratories. When the two components are mixed, a fluid, plastic-consistency blend is produced that can be applied by brush, roller, trowel or spray on both horizontal and vertical surfaces at approximately 2 mm thickness.
Once hardened, it remains constantly flexible under all environmental conditions, is fully waterproof, and provides long-term resistance against carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, chlorides and sulphates from seawater, ground, and the atmosphere. CE-certified to EN 14891 and EN 1504-2, and approved for contact with potable water.
Key Performance Benefits
- Outstanding crack-bridging capacity — Class A5 at +20°C (>2.5 mm) and 0.8 mm at -5°C
- Strong adhesion to concrete — 1.3 N/mm² after 28 days and 0.9 N/mm² after extended water immersion
- Capillary water absorption below 0.05 kg/m²·h — far exceeds EN 1062-3 threshold
- UV-stable formulation — retains flexibility and waterproofing performance
- Ideal for renovation and refurbishment without full substrate removal
- Excellent elongation at failure of 120% (DIN 53504) under thermal cycling and movement
- Fully waterproof — resists positive water pressure up to 1.5 bar for 7 days (EN 14891)
- Breathable membrane — water vapour permeability Class I (S = 3.6 m) prevents moisture entrapment

Application Guide — UAE Site Conditions
Follow these steps for optimum waterproofing performance with Mapelastic Smart in UAE's hot, high-humidity, and coastal environments.
Surface Preparation
All surfaces must be sound, clean, and free of laitance, dust, grease, oil, paint, and curing compounds. Remove damaged concrete by mechanical means or high-pressure water jetting. Seal active cracks with Eporip before application. Settlement cracks in screeds must be sealed beforehand. Existing ceramic tiles must be well bonded and free of contaminants. New renders must be cured for at least 7 days per cm of thickness. Dampen the substrate with clean water before application — no primer required on most prepared cementitious substrates.
Joint & Detail Treatment
Before main application, seal all structural joints, floor-wall junctions, and wall-wall connections using Mapeband TPE, Mapeband Easy, or Mapeband SA (self-adhesive). Seal expansion joints with Mapeflex PU 45 FT or equivalent flexible sealant. Apply a patching coat of Mapelastic Smart along all non-structural movement joints as a preparatory step — this does not count as one of the two main membrane coats.
Mixing
Pour Part B (liquid) into a clean container. Slowly add 75% of Part A (powder) while mixing with a low-speed mechanical mixer. Mix for a few minutes until homogeneous with no powder on the sides or bottom. Add the remaining 25% of Part A and continue mixing until a perfectly uniform, lump-free blend is obtained. Do not mix by hand. Do not add cement, aggregates, or water. Pot life is 60 minutes at +20°C.
First Coat Application
Apply the first coat by brush, roller, trowel, or spray at approximately 1 mm wet film thickness per coat. Work material firmly into the substrate to eliminate air pockets. For terraces, balconies, pools, and crack-prone substrates, embed Mapenet 150 alkali-resistant glass fibre mesh or Mapetex Sel non-woven fabric into the fresh first coat and press flat with a trowel. Allow the first coat to dry for 4–5 hours at +20°C before applying the second coat.
Second Coat — Crosswise Direction
Apply the second coat at right angles to the first to ensure uniform coverage and eliminate pinholes. The final dry film thickness must be a minimum of 1.6 mm — 2.0 mm is recommended for waterproofing applications. Protect from rain and water contact for the first 24 hours after application.
Curing & Overcoating
Allow a minimum of 24–48 hours before tiling over absorbent substrates. Wait at least 3 days before flood testing and a minimum of 5 days before full water immersion. Bond tiles using a C2-class adhesive such as Keraflex or Keraflex Maxi S1. Grout with Keracolor FF / Ultracolor Plus. For concrete protection applications requiring colour, overcoat with Elastocolor or Elastocolor Waterproof — a minimum of 20 days wait is required before applying the topcoat. Clean tools with water before mortar sets; mechanical removal only once hardened.
Extreme Heat
Do not apply when ambient temperature exceeds +40°C or when the substrate is in direct sunlight. Schedule application during early morning or after sunset during UAE summer months (Jun–Sep).
Rapid Drying Risk
Hot wind and direct solar radiation can cause premature surface drying, leading to pinholes and reduced waterproofing performance. Always protect fresh coatings with sheeting in exposed UAE conditions.
Unsuitable Substrates
Not suitable for metal, wood, or bituminous surfaces. Substrate must be cementitious, sound, and adequately prepared. Do not apply over existing flexible membranes without specialist advice.
